Maryland Terrapins 2011 Recruiting Trail Empty
PostSubject: Maryland Terrapins 2011 Recruiting Trail   Maryland Terrapins 2011 Recruiting Trail EmptyWed 20 Jan 2010, 5:08 am

Through six weeks of play and 7 weeks of recruiting, we bring to you the first edition of the brand new Maryland Terrapins Recruiting Trail. Coach Hickerson has his Terps ranked number 25 in the nation going into tonights game at number 3 Oregon State, should be a fun one, you all tune in. Now onto the real business of our write up.

The Terps currently have 3 commitments in the 2011 class and boast the prestigous number 1 ranking currently, albeit still very early.

The first commitment for the class is 3 star TE Kris Lewis out of Randallstown, MD. Although undersized for a tight end look for Lewis to possibly make an impact immediately next season in pass catching situations. Lewis had great speed and hands and is decent route runner. Lewis is also expected to be very dangerous after the catch and a nightmare matchup for linebackers.

The second commitment in the 2011 class is Cory Schroeder. A 5 star wide receiver out of Middletown, WI. He is currently ranked the number 1 WR in the nation and number 11 overall prospect. Schroeder came for a visit week 5 against Virginia and committed the Monday after. Look for him to see immediate playing time in a wide receiver core that is losing its top 4 players. Schroeder has great speed, hands, and leaping ability. Also has the ability to make the spectacular catch. Only knock on Schroeder is his size, only 5'11.

The third and final commitment in the class thus far is the number 8 running back in the nation. 4 star Amir Tate out of Bellair, FL. Standing at 5'11 and weighing at just under 200 Tate has the potential to be a super star back at the next level. He boasts great speed and has the ability to hit the hole and go with great acceleration. very tough to wrap up in the open field as well.

That does it for this segment of the Maryland Terrapins Recruiting Trail but the Terps still have 20 spots left to fill. So we will be back with hopefully more great news to report.

The last time the Maryland Terrapin recruiting trail was released the Terrapins class was ranked number 1 by Rivals. Well in week 14, the Terps arent that high, but they still have a great class and they currently stand at number 9 in the nation. They have picked up 5 commitments since we last released a review. They are the following:

4 star CB Kevin Hunter- The number 8 CD in the nation is out of Ravenswood, WV. He has great speed, agility, and acceleration. Hunter is a great in man coverage. The main thing he will need to work on to get on the field immediately with the Terps is his press coverage at the line.

3 star P Chris White - The number 9 punter in the nation is out of Evans, GA. He has a decent leg but needs to work on his accuracy on punts when they are needed to be placed short. He will be the Terps punter next year from day 1 unless current kicker and Groza award finalist Nick Ferrara handles both the place kicking and punting duties, which he does right now so White may see a redshirt.

4 star G Nate Edwards - The number 11 guard in the nation is out of York, PA. He also had offers from Texas and Ohio State. He has great strength and footwork but the Terps return a chunk of their O line unless a couple turn pro early it is likely Edwards will receive a redshirt. Coach Hickerson had made it known that he feels most offensive lineman are not ready for the next level when they first arrive in college.

4 star MLB Jared Golden - The number 4 MLB in the nation is out of Hazlehurst, MS. The Terps are very excited about Golden, He has great size,(6'4 263) and speed for the position. He tackles very well and is an extremely hard hitter. His football IQ isnt quite where Coach Hickerson and his staff would like it to be, but like they say you cant teach freakish athleticism.

4 star WR Ken Hicks - The number 17 WR in the nation is the Terps most recent commit. He isnt your receiver that jumps out at you and he likely will not make an impact next season but will probably see playing time since the Terps are losing 4 seniors to graduation. However, do expect him to be a solid receiver after he gets to college and works on his route running and ability to get in and out of cuts.

The Terps also have a soft commitment from 4 star CB Perry Hall. They also hosted several commits this weekend. Look for another write up in 2 weeks right before bowl season.

The Terps picked up a ninth hard commitment over the bye week to wrap up the regular season recruiting period at number 7 in the rivals rankings.

4 star CB - Perry Hall - The number 24 CB in the nation also had an offer from UNC. Has great speed and man coverage skills. Good burst of acceleration as well. Great chance to see the field next season. Needs to work on recognizing offenses and wrapping up on tackles instead of just going to hit someone. Putting on a little weight wouldnt hurt either.
