2011 Ole Miss Recruiting Empty
PostSubject: 2011 Ole Miss Recruiting   2011 Ole Miss Recruiting EmptyFri 15 Jan 2010, 1:45 am

"This year at Ole Miss we will be offering 12 athletes scholarships. Our team is extremely young and our recruiting class could benefit from this, giving us the ability to have more time to talk to some guys we feel have the ability to be playmakers immediately. What really helps us is that in our previous recruiting classes, we really filled a lot of the holes in our lineup. We only HAVE to replace two positions, DT and FB. There's plenty of candidates we're looking at for FB because our offence relies on the ability to throw to backs and have a blocker that will create holes for us. The DT position is very reactive and there's tons of players we have on our roster that could make the transition and tons of different positions we could recruit for this. So while we have only 12 slots we have plenty of freedom to find the next All American Ole Miss Rebels,"

Week 8 Update

The Ole Miss Rebels have gotten off to a slow recruiting start, mainly due to the fact that their scholarship limit is extremely low with the little ammount of graduating seniors this season. However, this week Coach Macc confirmed that they'd received a solid commitment from #1 FB Adam Hughes.

"Adam's a terrific football player and an even better kid. He runs like a running back and blocks like a lineman. He has terrific size for his position and his run blocking makes him an almost guarentee four year starter for us. We're really glad he decided to sign on and we can cross one of our big positions needed off of the list. Also, on a side note we received three soft commitments last week and I just spent a few hours with each of them on the phone... I can't give you any names but there's a DT, OT and a CB" Macc said.

2011 Ole Miss Recruiting 695260

ADAM HUGHES ****
Fullback (#1 FB)
Doraville, Georgia
Doraville

Ht: 6'0
Wt: 201 .lbs
40: 4.62
GPA: 3.1

Scouting Report
On The Hoof - Hughes is a mean, truck looking back with all of the physical attributes of a power runner or lead blocker. He has great size and upper body strength that allows him to make an impact blocking in the running game. He's almost the perfect size for his player type. Some strength training will only help him become a more well-rounded back that can do everything well.

Needs Improvement - Catching. Coach Macc likes to rely on his FB in the passing game. While Adam won't be asked to make any highlight reel grabs, he'll need to be able to consistently catch the short swing passes out of the flats to be successful. He could also work on his pass blocking.

Most Impressive - Run Blocking. This kid can throw the HUGE block or just be consistent in holding his man off of the ball carrier. The way he maneuvers defenders is like none other, he always creates his hole. Running plays when Adam's blocking are often succesful because of his block and only unsuccesful if somebody else really misses one.

Conclusion - Adam has a terrific opportunity at Ole Miss. Their fullbacks average nearly 40 catches a year and he'll have a big opportunity to be a playmaker in that regard. He will also help run blocking immediately. He has competition in Deon Hill, last years recruit but as of right now he's day and night in terms of comparison. If Adam continues to run hard, he will be the Rebels starting FB for four years.

He was my #1 the entire time. Kansas gave me a run but I needed a FB I was saying that before I even saw the class and they gave us a 4* I had to jump on it. It's been a slow start I only have 11 on my list too, lol. So it goes to show sometimes years recruiting like I had last year aren't consistent. My defence is REALLY young I realized that today I think I've got like 4 or 5 guys starting that I recruited either last season or the one before.

Big Win Over Arkansas Helps Land Two Big Linemen

The Rebels have landed solid commitments from 5* prospect DT Todd Lyson out of Owatonna, Minnesota and 4* T Roman Jackson from Reserve, Louisiana. Coach Macc says the reason for their commitments were terrific visit coordinators in current Rebels, DT Ted Laurent and T Bobbie Massie. Coach Macc gets some of his leadership, strong quality guys for their recruits to spend time with so they can get a feel for the life of a Rebel at that position.

"Ted and Bobbie did an excellent job of helping us land these recruits. Todd is an excellent addition to our DT depth with Ted graduating, he'll be a first year starter with Justin Smith. Eric Brown was a big tackle recruit for us last season so Rome will have some pretty stiff competition. Todd is incredibly strong for his age and has terrific power moves while block shedding and hits like a ton of bricks. Roman is a great all around blocker but makes his living in the run block. He's incredibly strong and has great ability to fend off even the best pass rushers. These guys will be a big part of our team early," Coach Macc said.

TODD TYSON *****
Defensive Tackle (#2 DT)
Owatonna, Minnesota
Owatonna

Ht: 6'3
Wt: 286 .lbs
40: 5.04
GPA: 3.0

Scouting Report
On The Hoof - Todd's a big, mean monster - perfect body type to play athletically at the DT position. He uses his body well to maneuver O-Linemen and when tackling. Incredibly strong base.

Needs Improvement - Todd could improve his ability to track ball carriers. He needs to work on his lateral running ability if he wants to become the total package.

Most Impressive - Tenacity. You'll never see a player with more aggression and passion for the game than Todd. He's a terrific character guy who will be a nightmare to gameplan against.

Conclusion - Todd has all the skills, ability and strength to be a dominant force early in his college career. There's not a chance this kid red shirts - he's a starter from day one.

ROMAN JACKSON ****
Offensive Tackle (#2 T)
Reserve, Louisiana
Reserve

Ht: 6'6
Wt: 286 .lbs
40: 5.10
GPA: 3.1

Scouting Report
On The Hoof - Roman's built like the perfect prototype to be protecting a quarterback. He's big but lean and in shape. He uses his big frame well to fend off defenders and push them backwards equally.

Needs Improvement - Stamina. He's all around very solid and sound. He could use some work being an every down guy that the Rebels could rely on and consider starting.

Most Impressive - Run Blocking. He's a great run blocker and opens terrific holes for his backs. He is incredibly strong and his pass blocking footwork and technique is as good as you can get at this stage.

Conclusion - Roman will have some tough competition for a starting spot as the Rebels have some solid recent Tackle recruits. He may red shirt if they don't think he'll be on the field right away. He will be a terrific O Linemen if he continues to improve at this rate.

Rebels Have ESPNs #1 Recruiting Class

This week after adding the nations most highly regarded high school football player to their list of commitments, Coach Macc's Rebels are now #1 in the recruiting department. The addition of Mississippi product, C Chris Collins is a huge addition and is one of the best and most promising athletes to come out of Mississippi in recent memory. All purpose running back, Matt Payne is high schools fastest athlete after recording a 4.34 40 time last week. He is an explosive do it all runner whose speed will be tough to not want to put on the field. CB Dan McGill is a terrific cover corner who has the potential to be a lockdown corner by his sophmore year.

2011 Ole Miss Recruiting CHAZGREENUA150

CHRIS COLLINS *****
Center (#1 C)
Pearl, Mississippi
Pearl

Ht: 6'2
Wt: 287 .lbs
40: 5.02
GPA: 3.0

Scouting Report
On The Hoof - Chris has a huge frame with long arms and could be the most athletic looking center in the NCAA next season. He could play upwards of 300 pounds and have the strength to keep any pass rusher off the ball.

Needs Improvement - Nothing. Chris is the best player in this high school class and he does everything so well that there's no real need for immediate improvement. He is as good as it gets at the center position.

Most Impressive - Pass Blocking. Chris simply doesn't let pass rushers get past him. He is by far the most advanced offensive linemen college football has seen at this level in 10 years.

Conclusion - Chris' skills allready make him the most eligible starting candidate for the Rebels at center, after Rishaw Johnson graduates this season. There's no question that his all around ability to lead the offensive line and not allow defenders in the backfield makes him a 4 year starter.

2011 Ole Miss Recruiting JEFFSCOTT2_18150

MARC PAYNE ****
All Purpose Back (#5 RB)
Jacksonville, Arizona
Jacksonville

Ht: 5'11
Wt: 215 .lbs
40: 4.34
GPA: 2.5

Scouting Report
On The Hoof - A very muscular and complete looking back that has the size and frame to take punishment throughout an entire game. His size will wear defences down and his speed will make it tough for them to keep up with him at any time.

Needs Improvement - Blocking. When not at the helm of running plays / Wildcat formations - he could really help his team by improving his ability to keep defenders away from the ball.

Most Impressive - Speed. Nobody flies like this kid. Open field, when in cuts, in a big pile. This kid has every all-around making to be a HUGE college running back. Normally kids with this kid of speed are tough to find spots for on the field weighing 160-180. This kids 215 pound frame and 4.34 speed make him a big threat to gameplan against.

Reminiscent Of - Ronnie Brown. He has nearly an identical build to the former Auburn star. His speed and ability to use his body make him a near identical player as well. He should really help the Rebels running attack for years to come.

Conclusion - With Brandon Bolden graduating the Rebels really don't have anyone set in stone to be the next back. Marc is a very special player who you want to treat right and make sure feels he's neccesary for the teams success. While he may make mistakes if he's used early - four years of starting experience would make this back the most elligible for NFL out of any player in this entire class.

2011 Ole Miss Recruiting DEXTERMCDONALD10_20150

DAN MCGILL ****
Cornerback (#10 CB)
Golden Glades, Florida
Golden Glades

Ht: 5'11
Wt: 175 .lbs
40: 4.56
GPA: 3.1

Scouting Report
On The Hoof - Dan has good height for a corner but isn't as thick as you'd hope for a lockdown corner. He could use an extra 10 pounds to be in the best shape for making an impact at this level.

Needs Improvement - Run Defense. He could certainly improve his ability to tackle ball carriers and everything else besides just covering his man. He doesn't have deceptive speed so he could work on improving that aspect of his game as well.

Most Impressive - Coverage. This kid has all the awareness and know-how to be a lockdown cover corner. His ability to defend the pass really overshadows his smaller build and average speed for a corner. He is about as good as you could hope for in pass defence at this stage.

Conclusion - Dan will have a tough time making it onto the field early so it's really up to how he does in spring and how all others around the corner position improve - seeing as they only have one graduating senior.

Rebels finalize season recruiting early

The Ole Miss Rebels finalized their recruiting before hosting UGA this afternoon with 5* prospect CB Johnny Clark and 4* CB JuCo Mike Bennett. This validates the Rebels #1 class for at least a few more weeks, expected to drop because of their scholarship limit of only four more after having inked these two. Bennett and Clark have scheduled to enroll at Ole Miss this week and they will certainly add some depth to the corner position that will be very solid after this season passes.

"This allows us to really juggle our defensive backs and put certain guys at their natural positions. Mike is a very physical kid who loves contact and loves to bump receivers in the first five yards and he's incredibly strong at it. He's all around very athletic and has good speed even for at this position. We think he'll fit perfectly into our scheme at the nickle or dimeback position. Johnny is a big corner who will match up properly with even the biggest, tallest receivers. This makes us confident he'll be playing either 1 or 2 for us and we PLAN on having him redshirt for a year if he doesn't get on the field immediately. Johnny is a bit faster than Mike but not as physical. His man coverage skills are terrific and he's certainly got every athletic aspect cut out to play at this level," Macc said.

2011 Ole Miss Recruiting ADRIANWHITE09AC1150

JOHNNY CLARK *****
Cornerback (#2 CB)
Pine Hills, Florida
Pine Hills

Ht: 6'2
Wt: 195 .lbs
40: 4.40
GPA: 3.0

Scouting Report
On The Hoof - This kid is as good as you can possibly get in terms of size at this position. He has tremendous upside and ability to physically mature and become a more physical corner but he's got the size to match up well with even the biggest receivers, allready. This kid is a dream for any coach to have recruited at the corner position.

Needs Improvement - Tackling. He tackles about as well as any corner but he could really improve his game if he could consistently help in the running game. This isn't an area of immediate concern.

Most Impressive - Speed/Coverage. His very bulky athletic build allows him to be a force on the line but he makes his living locking receivers down. He has the speed to go with the size.

Reminiscent Of - Darelle Revis. He's big, physical and loves to compete and lock his receiver down. He's the type that will draw penalties from high profile receivers because of his ability to be so good, so young. He's very calm and about the farthest thing from hotheaded you could find.

Conclusion - This kid has tremendous potential. Depending how things work out in the corner position during off-season - Johnny could find himself on the field immediately. He will be best served at the #1 or #2 corner position locking down a teams best receiver because of his physicality and size. His speed will be tough to keep off of the field as well.

2011 Ole Miss Recruiting CODYRIGGSUA150

MIKE BENNETT ****
Cornerback (#11 CB)
Mesquite, Texas
JUCO - Alamo

Ht: 5'9
Wt: 190 .lbs
40: 4.44
GPA: 2.9

Scouting Report
On The Hoof - He's very short but also very thick for the corner position. He uses his build well in the physical game. He's very strong especially at this position.

Needs Improvement - Tackling. He could really improve his ability to play early by improving his tackling and pursuit angles.

Most Impressive - Press. This kid can hold any receiver on the line long enough to kill any play-action pass intended for that receiver. He also has adequite speed for this position.

Reminiscent Of - Antoine Winfield. Very small but very strong. The ability to hold receivers up and not allow them any space within the first 5 yards will mess with even college receivers psyche.

Conclusion - Mike may see time on the field, especially replacing natural safety Jeremy Thompsons nickle back spot. His ability to keep receivers at bay on the line is something the Rebels are in need of due to the ammounts of quick slants across the middle opponents are using out of the slot position.
