| SOLID COMMITMENTS LG Allen Russell Height: 6'3" Weight: 267 lbs Hometown: Roselle, NJ Tendency: Run Blocker Top 3 Schools: #1 Pittsburgh, #2 South Carolina, #3 Texas Squat Max: 705 Bench Max: 444
On The Hoof - Not the biggest or tallest offensive linemen, but Russell plays the guard position very physical and athletically. He has a huge set of hands and a tremendous reach advantage on many interior defensive linemen without giving up any of the power to push them back or away. Needs Improvement - If Russell gets any better at pass blocking over the next year, he will be a lock first-ballot All American candidate in his junior year.
Most Impressive - His ability to get out, make physical blocks and create gaping holes upfield. Russell has good speed for a college athlete, amazing speed for an offensive linemen. If Russell wasn't such an assett off the line, he could play fullback. A very dynamic player who will bring a very unique skill set to the table and could fight for playing time immediately.
Conclusion - Russell is going to excell in the Pittsburgh downhill style of running. It's no surprise their offensive system intrigued him enough to make him sign this early. He's a great fit for them and will make a huge impact as soon as he gets on the field. This is a great commitment for Pitt early in the year. They will sign as many offensive line prospects as possible this year, and Russell will be among the best. WR Will Rosario Height: 5'10" Weight: 170 lbs Hometown: Roselle, NJ Tendency: Speed Receiver Top 3 Schools: #1 Pittsburgh, # 40 Time: 4.50
On The Hoof - Rosario currently looks like a quick, shifty running back who would need to put on some size to play at the college level. He's got a very low centre of gravity and moves in and out of the passing lanes much like Patriots wideout, Wes Welker. He's got a rocked up build with short arms so he won't be your prototypical posession guy, he won't turn incompletions into receptions but when he has the ball in his hands he'll be quick to get up field with his powerful base. Needs Improvement - Rosario has his work cut out for him - he could use some more time in the weight room. He's probably reached his peak in terms of physical build and size, however he could improve his ability to get off the press and into the middle zones where he makes his living. He could also improve his ability to catch the ball, all entangibles that are subconsciously sharpened and developed as you come into a collegiate program.
Most Impressive - Speed. Will can flat out FLY. His 4.5 speed doesn't do his actual speed any justice in fact he hasn't bugged Rivals or ESPN to post an update because he wanted to be considered the underdog. He is your inside slot receiver that will be a quarterback's best friend not with his pass catching ability, but with his ability to catch the ball, make a linebacker miss and cut up field. Will's a threat to score almost any time he touches the ball and will remind fans of current Panther WR Darren Thomas with his ability to turn what looks to be short gains, into touchdowns.
Conclusion - Nothing is certain in terms of Will's immediate playing time. What is known is that there is a graduating senior (Kory Rogers) who is the only receiver certain of leaving after this year, because of his graduation. Will that move Darren Thomas to the outside, if so there isn't a player currently on their roster who could better fit the role of their #3 slot guy than Rosario. Basically, the coaching staff is going to wait to see how he does with the rest of his teammates and will decide whether or not he could come in and have an immediate impact on the offense. The coaching staff are thrilled to have the #2 WR in the country, on board.TE Ryan Jackson Height: 6'8" Weight: 261 lbs Hometown: Pittsburgh, PA Tendency: Blocking Top 3 Schools: #1 Pittsburgh, # 40 Time: 4.60
On The Hoof - Jackson is built like a mack truck. If his size isn't demoralizing, one look at his painted face and contacts that remove the color of his retina, are. He has a very wide set of shoulders and his weight is distrubuted like a present from the heaven's above. He looks like your prototype NBA Power Forward, and he moves and swivles just like a ball player. Jackson has a great tight end build. Needs Improvement - Jackson could improve his ability to catch the ball and get up field quicker after the catch. For being a blocking tight end, he certainly has his work cut out for him in terms of development. Jackson could convert to fullback and have very little areas of improvement with his average set of hands and the will to destroy would be tacklers. If he wants a shot at the NFL, he should most likely redshirt his freshman year and work with Pitt's current tight end and receiving corps, absorbing as much from them as possible.
Most Impressive - Size. If there's one quality of Ryan's game that's attracting scuots, it's his linebacker demeanor combined with his massive build. He is usually the biggest player on the field and he uses his size to his advantage. He doesn't have a venus fly trap for hands, but he uses his height to tip balls up and over defenders to make the catch easier for him. He doesn't flash signs of brilliance every game, but one look at his highlight tape from high school and travel ball, he has made some amazing catches.
Conclusion - With the young depth at tight end for the Panthers, it's almost certain Jackson will spend his first year redshirting learning the system. He has a bright future in this league and by his rs sophmore year, he should be the go to guy in the redzone for the Panthers. His big body creates matchup problems and he's a very good, all-around blocker, receiver and he can step in and play a valuable leadership role, immediately.

| FIRST YEAR LOOK-OUT PLAYERS DREW RANDELL #28 SSHometown Waldorf, MDHeight 6'0"Weight 195.lbsAge 19Class (RS) FreshmanWith the departure of Coach Macc's very first high profile recruit, SS Adrian Rice (cornerback for the Baltimore Ravens) the position battle for strong safety would be the first since this coaching staff had been here. This spring, the question who would play next to All American FS Preston East was answered quickly when Drew Randell stepped up and laid a licking on fourth year junor wideout, Travis Robinson (Robinson has a 3 inch 30 pound size advantage). The practice went quiet, Travis got up, told Drew "nice hit"... Drew Randell took all of the first team snaps after that."He needs to improve his decison making, something that will come along every single repetition. He has all of the athletic aspect to play this position menacingly, the size the speed the tackling ability. He's a ball hawk and his eagerness to be involved in plays shines through his confidence and he plays with heart and pride," Coach Macc said about him.In the season opener vs. Florida State, Randell showed the country who he is taking an interception, through, around and past the opposition for a pick six and eventual ESPN Play of the Game.Randell has quickly emerged as a very charasmatic second year freshman. He recognizes he's the young protige next to a nearly certain top 3 NFL Draft pick, FS Preston East. East's dominance and respect around the league will ensure teams will attack Randell's side of the field, and this is a role he's confident in playing."I was never the star player for even my high school team, I think that the coaching staff and practicing with these guys made me the player I am and got me ready to be in this position. I'm used to offenses not respecting me, and I guarentee I will make people regret that," Randell said.#28 Strong Safety DREW RANDELL - just one of a few first year, lookout players for Pittsburgh. | |
