Fourth Quarter Scoring 21-21 3:23 FG MISS T. CAMPBELL 37 YARDS
FINAL SCORE MISS 24-21
The Ole Miss Rebels went to Champagne this afternoon and it would be yet another epic battle on the gridiron. An instant classic in this rivalry dubbed, the Battle of MillIS'Sippi featuring two high profile coaches and two top 25 college football teams. The Rebels came in #5 and hoping to avenge the loss in Week 13 of last season, they'd allready had with a Sugar Bowl victory but the Rebels played harder then last years Sugar Bowl, argueably.
Brandon Bolden was a nightmare for the Illinois defence on the ground and through the air. He had nearly 200 all purpose yards and three rushing touchdowns. The Rebels showed the Fighting Illini a new Wildcat package and Bolden took a few options for some serious yardage. He also caught for 113 yards on 11 catches really helping the two QBs showcased in the Rebels line-up.
"We wanted to give Illinois a bit more option then we have in the past because we didn't feel like they would be ready for it. It's nearly impossible to run on them inbetween the tackles so we figured we'd stretch their tendency to bring everyone up to the line out East and West. It may not be the best strategy for a coach but it certainly helped us today and gave them something to think about. We're really satisfied with the win. It was a hard fought game in this instant classic rivalry. I think Coach Gangs a great coach and have nothing but the utmost respect for him and his team. Those kids played their hearts out, they've got some real weapons in their receiving corps. Jamie Ivey is by far the best true freshman WR in the country," Macc said.
In what would turn out to be a battle of defence and passing offence, the Rebels getting the better of the two. Ray Cotton and Junior College transfer Jamie Pierce combined for 268 yards through the air, Cotton throwing for 181 of them but for the three picks on the day. Pierce was 6/8 and deadly accurate. He certainly impressed the coaching staff when called upon today and could pose a threat for some starting time.
"It's great that we got to sign Jamie late last season because we knew he'd be a star right away. What we really like about this scenario is that we've got two solid options at quarterback. Sure, our offences will change accordingly when either is used but it gives us plenty of more options. The transition into this has been smooth because the line and the receivers have developed an instant connection with Jamie and really looked comfortable when he's at the helm. The line knows his mobility isn't great so they'll have to work harder protecting him but boy can he throw the ball," Macc said regarding QB controversy.
"I love competition man, I just want to win. I'm glad we got this game out of the way early because they were the only team to beat us last season and had we not lost that game we could've been in the National Championship. It's all what ifs but I'll take a 3 interception day and 3 point victory every Saturday and if it means giving my back up some more snaps, by all means. We're competitive with eachother but we've realized that if we both take some snaps we could cause some real problems for defensive coordinators... good luck game planning on us," Cotton had to say.
"I just want to come in and do what I can as quick as possible. I know I've got to prove myself to these guys but I hope today made them a bit more confident that I can ball at this level. We've got a great team here and I'm allready loving the connection with them," Pierce said.
Macc is so impressed with Pierce's overall knowledge of the game that he's named him offensive captain. Pierce's overall awareness is second to none and he's a real signal caller out there. He reminds of a Peyton Manning type quarterback whose terrific at making adjustments, reading defences and distributing a well placed ball.
"Jamie's just a kid who didn't take the college football thing serious in high school and failed to make the grades to play ball right away. He's working his butt off to keep his marks up because he's under the microscope. He's done a terrific job and he understands the game of football like no other I've seen at this level," Macc said.

| Bearcats Overpower Buckeyes, 48-27Columbus, OH-- The University of Cincinnati have improved to 2-0 after coming away with an emphatic victory over in state rival the Ohio State Buckeyes at the Horseshoe today. The Bearcats had to fight hard for the win after falling behind by 10 points at the end of the half. But Cincinnati came out of the sheds fired up as they piled on 31 straight points in the second half as he defence held the Buckeyes scoreless to come away with the 48-27 victory. "I am really please with the teams performance today. Alotof teams woud have gotten down on themselves if they were in our situation at half time, but these kid stepped up and made the plays neccesary to come away with a bigg win", responded Coach Clevmire1 when asked about his teams performance. Zach Collaros had a very good game finishing 16 for 24 with 305 yards and 3 touchdown tosses. While on the defensive side stud defensive end Joe Robinson recorded 7 tackles and his teams only sack on the day. The Bearcats are at home next week to face off against the wounded Oregon State Beavers who will be travelling to Cincinnati without starting quarterback Katz.
