| Bearcats Pound Pitt, 31-7Cincinnati, OH-- The University of Cincinati have improved their record to 5-0 (1-0) after beating BIG EAST conference rivals the #5 Pitt Panthers 31-7 today at Nippert Stadium. The Bearcats defense set the the tone. After allowing a touchdown on Pitt's first possesion Cincinnati's All American and All Big East laden defense would not allow another single point as they completely shut down the nations #5 ranked rushing offense allowing only 24 yards on the ground. Defensive Tackle Adam Henry was the was the standout as he recorded 5 tackles and 2 sacks. Cincinnat's offense also had a good day as they made sure that Pitt would have as few oppurtunities as possible by controlling the ball for 19 minutes 5 seconds as oppose to 6 minutes 59 seconds. The Bearcats offence was also extremely efficient converting 83% of their third down tries and where also a perfect three from three inside the redzone. True freshman quarterback Donnell Davis continues to impress as he played well within himself to guide the Bearcats to victory. He finished 17 for 24 with 274 passing yards 30 rushing yards and 4 total touchdowns. Also having a suburp game for the Bearcats was third string runningback Chris Harris who was starting in place of the injured Darrin Williams and Justin Petty who were both injured in the game last week against Toledo. Harris ended the game with 15 carries for 110 yards. "It was great to get that win, that win with go a big way towards us regaining the BIG EAST title. I am very pleased with the whole team cause we had a gret gameplan and they executed it flawlessly." Commented Coach Clevmire1 after the game. | The Terps continued their perfect season with a convincing victory over Utah State out of the WAC 52-7. Once again the Terps used an impressive 24 point 4th quarter to really put separation between the two teams.
The Terps offesne put up 448 yards, 209 on the ground, and 239 through the air. Yet another very balanced attack. Once again they were led by "Mr. Do it All" Caleb Porzel. Porzel had 5 total touchdowns on the day, 3 on the ground, 1 in the air, and one on a kick return where he made a name for himself last season. Porzel had 126 yards on 19 carries and 100 yards through the air on 5 receptions. Maryland has officially launched their Porzel for heisman campaign according to AD Deborah Yow, "We are pushing for Caleb to win the heisman, because we feel he is very deserving of the award. The award goes to the best player in college football, and we believe Caleb truly is the best player. He runs the ball, catches the ball, and returns kicks."
The Terps defesne played well, only giving up 168 total yards. They were led by Isiah Ross with 8 tackles, 3 for a loss.
The Terps will welcome in the Memphis Tigers next weekend before they have their bye which is followed by 4 tough ACC games to finish out the conference slate. | |

| Bearcats Beat Huskies, 44-10(Quarterback Donnell Davis fighting for extra yards against the Huskies)East Hartford, CT-- Freshman quarterback Donnell Davis was unstoppable as he tore up the UConn defense both in the air and on the ground in the Bearcats 34 point win in East Hartford today. When asked postgame about Donnell's (Davis) performance as starter this year coach Clevmire1 said, "He has been outstanding this year. We knew that he was extremely talented when we recruited him and we knew he would be a very good player at this level. But, we didn't know he would be performing this well this soon". Davis finished with 18 for 28 with 229 passing yards, 12 rushes for 133 rushing yards and 3 total touchdowns. The rest of the Bearcats offense also played very well, with the usual suspects DJ Woods (7 rec 68 yards 2 touchdown), Justin Petty (9 carries 51 yards 2 touchdowns) and Darrin Williams (12 carries 83 yards 2 rec 73 yards) all putting up good numbers. Once again Cincinnati's defense was solid without being spectacular. After starting slow allowing over 200 of offense in the first half they came out and stuffed UConn in the second half allowing less than 50 yards in the last 30 minutes. Cincinnati travels to Louisville next week to take on the Cardinals in the next installment of the Battle for the Keg of Nails. Play Of The Game http://www.easports.com/media/play/video/16552409 | |
