| Oregon coach Smith-Ellis pumped up after dismantling Texas
Austin, Texas - An Oregon program looking for an identity when they hired the Fiery Chris Smith-Ellis found one. After going 12-1 in his first year with a Pac-10 championship and a Rose Bowl win over Michigan, it was clear that these Ducks were ready to make some noise again. Starting the year off ranked #3 in the nation, behind Senior QB Bryan Bennett, Oregon ran through #16 Wisconsin at the time, holding them scoreless until the 4th quarter in what few predicted would be a blowout. But the the maturation of Oregon QB Bennett rediscovered his throwing touch, scorching the Wisconsin defense to the tune of 325 yards and 6 TDs. Oregon would head into a huge early matchup with #9 ranked Texas, who rolled over last years National Champs Arizona in the first game of the year.
Texas had a historic recruiting class, getting commitments from 10 Five Star prospects and a dozen 4 Star, including super freshman QB Steve Carter. Clearly the Ducks had their work cut out for them. With Texas getting the ball first, the Ducks Defense knew they had to make a statement, sending the freshman Carter to the dirt with a sack to make it 4th and 20 and a punt. Bennett would throw a touchdown on Oregon's first drive, claiming the lead which they would never lose.
The speedy Oregon defense, missing impact starting LB Steve Thomas to broken ribs didn't skip a beat as they forced 5 Texas turnovers and holding Texas scoreless in the second half. And while the defense deserves a game ball, it will not get one. That ball belongs to QB Bryan Bennett who was unrattled by the Texas crowd, going an accurate 20-27, 298 yards 5 TDs, and rushing for another TD.
Can Oregon reclaim a title they lost focus of last year? The year is young but so far so good.
Final Score
Oregon 52 Texas 17

| Ax ill be honest...i looked at their ratings and i simmed most of the game lol until it was too late...dumb on my end. but thats the way it goes. Like the return kickoff Oregon St had for 103 yards? That was a sim. I simmed one play in the 4th and it was a kickoff fumble by my special teams. This year there will be no simming the kickoffs...that lost me the national title shot lol | |

| Coach Hickerson:
Tough challenge for our guys, young team going on the road to play a team that has lost 4 games in the last 4 years, will definitely be a tough challenge. They normally have a high octane offense so we don't plan to stop them, you can't, we do plan to slow them down however, and make them work to get in the endzone. With that being said, offensively we have to protect the ball, stay on the field, and most importantly score touchdowns when we get in the red zone. We will be asking our young guys to grow up fast and asking Zac to become a leader fast. The freshman Chris White will get the start at tailback this game, we have complete confidence in him. Him and Zac will be asked to do a lot in the run game to keep Missouri off the field, we feel that is the only way to beat them. | |
