In a game that Coach Macc wanted to stress ball control, hoped he could mix in some backups for playingtime while taking the rivalry with West Virginia seriously - and it seemed to be a valid strategy after a pass to argueably the best true freshman playmaker in college football, Will Rosario took a big hit that will sideline him for two weeks.
"That play dictated exactly what I wanted to avoid. This was a big game for us, but we knew we would shut them down defensively... we should have kept the guys we'll need in the bowl game fresh but thankfully Will's a tough kid and we'll have him back at 100% in two weeks," Coach Macc said.
Sharnpess on the defensive side of the ball is what the Panthers coaching staff got today. The linebacking corps had their best game of the season. MLB Dwayne Graham made a bunch of plays, in the backfield he had a few tackles for loss as well as two sacks today. Graham's currently competeing for the linebacker of the year award leading the nation in tackles with 54.
CB Jeff Coleman's been the best playmaker in the secondary this year, he hauled in two interceptions against the Mountaineers today, bringing his season total to five. One of Coleman's INTs went for a pick six. Despite being a first year player, being a junior college transfer last season - Coleman's going to be an All American preformer next season if he can improve his ability to play at 100% on longer defensive stands.
The #2 Panthers wait patientily, their regular season ends without a goose egg in the loss column. Monday mornings BCS Standings should shake things out a bit, but the real question remains if in state rival #1 Penn State can knock off a stingy Coach Cokes coached Florida State Seminoles squad. The Panthers will take a much needed two weeks of rest before they find out officially who they will be playing in their bowl game. Coach Macc said they will be back to work, gameplanning the minute they know who it is they will play.
