| Coach Hickerson's preseason presser:
"Thank God for a new year. We as a team, coaching staff, program, and I as an individual learned a lot of things from last year. We took away a lot, and we definitely learned from it. It was what I as a coach call, a coach em up moment.. normally those moments happen during a game, not an entire year though. needless to say, we learned you cant halfway do anything, you cant start something and not finish it, and you cant finish something without starting it. We know we have a good football team here this year, we know we had a talented team last season. Very talented group of kids, we just didnt put it all together. This year that is our goal, with the talent we have on this roster, there is no reason we arent competing for a conference title and a BCS bowl game year in and year out. With that being said, we are a young team, and we will have our young moments, but that is no excuse for what happened here last year, and that will not happen again. You can mark my words on that."
"Onto the team though. We are young, no doubt about it. Young and inexperienced is the two words I would use to describe this team, besides talented. When your young, you gotta grow up fast, and we are gonna do that by playing as a team. One person isnt gonna make us good on their own, he will need everyone around him, and we all know that. The more we buy into the fact this is a team sport, the better off we will be."
Season notes: Starting a true freshman at quarterback - Billy Jefferson Junior, Tony Hand replaces one of the best backs in the nation, Clinton Webb Juco transfer, junior, Devin Brewer has garnered lots of hype from Coach Hickerson
Defense could be weak The line has 1 returning starter, senior RE Rich Tyler, freshman DT Zach Harrison is biting at the heels of both starting DT's, if either slip up, the true freshman will slide right into the starting lineup Secondary is young. True freshman Andre Miller is the number 1 cornerback, followed by junior JUCO transfer Tiger Strickland. Starting two seniors at safety, but neither are overly talented.
The JUCO transfer Tiger Strickland is handling kick and punt returns, Coach Hickerson loves this guy's work ethic and attitude. Also a great leader.

| Arizona State starts season with bang Arizona State started the season with by doing something they only did three times all of last season. Win. The Sun Devils opened the season with an impressive, well balanced 42 to 14 victory over Southern Miss. "I am very proud of the guys, very balanced, everyone played well. Defensively, they scored twice, both times we ran the same play, obviously we do not need to run that play," said a chuckling Coach Hickerson. Hickerson was happy and easy going for the first time in a while, and for good reason. His Sun Devils looked like a very well organized and together football team, 2 things Hickerson preached must get better. Freshman quarterback Billy Jefferson played a great first game as a division 1 starting quarterback, going 14 of 32 for 294 yardsm 3 TD's and ZERO int's. his completion percentage was a bit low, but he got his yards and touchdowns and if the quarterback has that, he is usually successful. Junior tailback Tony Hand filled the voide of Clinton Webb rather nicely, going for 126 yards on only 15 carries. Hand also had a touchdown. His partner in crime, senior maurice Goff has 9 carries for 45 yards. "We will look to increase the workload for the backs throughout the season, today we really wanted to see Billy throw it around and see what he had," said Hickerson. Senior tight end James Pollard was Jefferson's favorite target, catching 6 passes for 138 yards. Senior wide out Carlos Thomas could also make the argument that he was he top target on the day, catching 5 passes for 91 yards, but also haouled in two touchdowns. Devin brewer, the JUCO transfer, only had 1 catch for 14 yards. Defensively, the Sun Devils played a very good game, minus the 2 long touchdown catches, almost a perfect game. Senior outside linebacker Donte Willis led the team in tackles with 8. Willis also forced a fumble. This was one of FOUR forced fumbles for the Sun Devils. True freshmen Andre Miller and Zach Harrison did not disappoint either. Miller had 5 tackles, a sack, and an interception while Harrison recored 4 tackles, 3 for a loss, in his limited action. The defense forced 5 Southern Miss turnovers, and Coach Hickerson believes that was the key to the game. "We won the turnover battle, anytime you do that, your chances if winning increase 10 fold," said Hickerson. Next week the Sun Devils host the Michigan Wolverines in their home opener. | |

| not certain, but i think they will be set for week 2, being i didn't post them in time for ax to change them for week 1.
i've played a few games with these, and it actually is somewhat challenging. is not the typically snoozefest we have become accustomed to. however, i'm sure ax a few others will still be able to name their score. me, not so much. | |
