The 2011 season kicks off with some big games early, opening the top 25 scene right up quick.

GOTW

#7 Ole Miss @ #5 Georgia Tech
- I'ma have my work cut out for me here. GT looks pretty tough, their defence is pretty solid led by MLB Kyle Jackson and DT Jason Peters. Gameplan - attack through the air and hit some outside runs. Bolden looks to vy for the Heisman as he's been at the past two ceremonies but yet to claim it. I'ma be gunnin!!

#24 Illinois @ #9 USC
- SIGH. Be nice to them, Gang.

HEISMAN

WR Bradley McDougald KU - McDougald's been one of the most efficient receivers the past two years and it's no surprise he makes this list. He's Kale Coopers favourite target and they do WORK.

RB Brandon Bolden MISS - I really think if I'll have any shot at this award it'll be this year with Bolden. He's a tough runner and really effective in the pass game.

RB Michael Tucker TCU - Tucker's a terrific back who rushed for 2500 yards last season. Unfortunately he splits carries with the sophmore Timmons, but it didn't appear to be a problem getting yards last year in TCU's powerful running attack.

QB Kale Cooper KU - If Kale keeps the interceptions down, he's a big threat here. He's a very efficient passer and has the ability to tuck it and run. He only threw 9 picks last season so look for that number to drop this year.

QB Ryan Katz - Katz had a 3600 yard season last year but with terrific weapons in James and Jacquizz Rodgers playing in the NFL this season his numbers could suffer. He's really improved over the offseason and Coach 9s looks for a big year out of his QB.

The first game in the Jeff Hickerson era couldnt have been scripted any better. That is unless you ask Jeff Hickerson himself. Coach Hickerson told us he didnt like the 14 points they gave up, especially the fact that they were on two blown plays. They scored on the first drive of the game on a 44 yard pass and then again before halftime on a 64 yard pass. Besides that coach was pleased, "We played pretty well on offense, and pretty well on defense besides those two drives." The Terps put up a whopping 35 points in the second quarter to let BYU they didnt belong on the same field. Maryland ran for 313 yards while passing for 217. Senior QB Jamarr Robinson found his go to guy, Torrey Smith for 8 of Robinsons 11 completions on the day. Smith finished the day with 121 receiving yards and 1 touchdown catch while Robinson finished 11 for 18 and 162 yards. The offensive leaders on the day however were senior Davin Meggett and sophomore Caled Porzel. meggett had 16 carries, 145 yards, and 3 tds on the ground while Porzel had 11 for 132 and 2 touchdowns. The speedster Porzel also returned a kick for a touchdown. Defensively, the Terps played sound fundamental football for the most part with the highlight of the day for them coming on an Austin Walker interception return for a 1 yard score after Maryland pinned BYU on the 1 after a great punt.

#6 Oregon States National Title hopes came crashing down, the second QB Ryan Katz went down with a broken jaw in the 1st quarter. Already Rodger Brothers less, now the Beavs will be without their Heisman hopeful and leader of the offense for 10 weeks. Senior Qb and last years opening day starter,James Butler took over the reigns, but he was roughed up. Enter RS-Fr Sean Mannion, the youngster threw two TDs, but also threw two picks, including a pick-sixer. With a strong run game lead by Jovan Stevenson, the Oregon State Beavers hold on between the hedges, and takes out Georgia 38-28.
Offensive Standouts
QB S Mannion 8-12 88yds 2Tds 2Ints
QB J Butler 4-7 33yds 1TD
HB J Stevenson 36att 195yds 1TD 3rec 37yds
POTG WR M Wheaton 8rec 94yds 3TDs
Defensive Standouts
OLB K Unga 8Tkls 4TFL 2Sacks
Special Team Standouts
WR/RET D Morris 3KR 149yds 49.6avg 1TD
After a bye week,Coach 9's takes his Beavs into the Hostile Territory of Cincinnatti, to take on Coach Clev's #10 Bearcats. With 4 of the Beavs 5 opening games, coming on the road, this uneasy quarterback situation will surely be tested.

Very impressed. Very sim dude. Rushing for 200 is fine, especially if you use a 2 back set. Good job.

Rebels Hang on In Hotlanta

Coach Macc and his Rebels took the field for their season opener in Atlanta at Bobby Dodds Stadium last night and it was by far the youngest Macc coached team. With only 9 seniors in the lineup, there were a few slips in coverage and route running that stuck out like a sore thumb to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and they would intend to take advantage of it.

The Rebels quieted the crowd early as true freshman nickleback CB Daniel Breedlove reads an option pitch on the very first play of the game for the interception.

"The first play of the game is exactly why we were so keen on recruiting Danny. He has really turned his game up since stepping on campus here, he will be an All American by seasons end," Coach Macc said.

The Yellow Jackets attempted to shut down the Rebels All American running game lead by Brandon Bolden all evening and Ray Cotton took advantage of that by finding Tray Talbot just barely behind the goalline for a spectacular catch that appeared as if Tray Talbot did a backflip to get his body in position to make the catch. This lead to a Bolden goalline touchdown untouched, 7-0 Miss.

The Yellow Jackets drove right down the field and deep into Rebels territory before Junior All American LE Gerald Rivers stripped the ball carrier and fell on the fumble. The Rebels couldn't manage any points and were forced to punt and the Jackets took the option run in for the score tying the game 7-7.

The ball traded hands a few times and the Rebels appeared to be zeroing in on the GT running game, simply cheesy option runs that some broke off but most were wrapped up for a loss. The Rebels forced a third and long and pressured the QB into throwing a prayer - a prayer that Senior All American FS Derrick Herman would answer in the form of an interception. Herman had space infront of him but an offensive linemen made the 10 foot diving stop... (??? Rediculous)

The Rebels would put up a receiving score, FB Dan Hoffman took one in for 6 but that only brought the Rebels within 4 after a defensive mixup allowed the GT FB to take one down for over 90 yards for a score. Ole Miss were playing well on defence but they couldn't seem to get it rolling on the offensive side.

The third quarter was scoreless and the Rebels took the field in the fourth and it would be the running game that would elevate them into Yellow Jacket territory after Brandon Bolden took a Wildcat run for 47 yards. This seemed to spark life in the Rebels as they moved the chains exceptionally well, eventually Ray Cotton found Tray Talbot in the endzone after a terrific route giving the Rebels the 3 point lead 24-21.

The Rebels defence didn't allow much for the Jackets, however with a fourth down in field goal range the GT Yellow Jackets nailed a 50 yard field goal to tie the game with barely over 2:00 on the clock. Coach Macc called his offence over in a huddle on the sideline to get their heads in the game to hang onto the ball and not give them a chance to win. An inspired group lead by the leadership of Tray Talbot took the field and Ray Cotton moved the ball exceptionally well, running the clock down after getting over the 50. Two clutch receptions by Talbot and a few runs by Bolden put the Rebels well into field goal range and they let the clock die down as their kicker nailed the game winning field goal, 27-24.

OFFENSIVE LEADERS
QB Ray Cotton 22/41 318 yards 2TD 2INT
RB Brandon Bolden 22 carries 115 yards 1TD
WR Tray Talbot 6 receptions 157 yards 1TD
FB Dan Hoffman 8 receptions 64 yards 1TD

DEFENSIVE LEADERS
LE Gerald Rivers 7 Tackles 4TFL 1 Sack 1FF
MLB Joel Kight 6 Tackles 3TFL
FS Derrick Herman 6 Tackles 2TFL 1INT
